Iran on Tuesday unveiled a new armed drone bearing resemblance to America's MQ-9 Reaper, with state media claiming it has the operational range to reach Israel. The Mohajer-10 was showcased during a ceremony celebrating the Islamic Republic's Defense Industry Day. The drone can fly non-stop for 24 hours with an operational range of around 1,200 miles and is capable of carrying a bomb payload of up to 660 pounds, according to the state-run IRNA News Agency.

Tehran, Iran – Iran has unveiled a new drone that it says is capable of striking targets in Israel. The Iranian Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics unveiled the Mohajer-10 on Tuesday as part of an exhibition and ceremonies marking Defence Industry Day. President Ebrahim Raisi and senior commanders in the army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attended the event. The unmanned attack aircraft, which resembles the MQ-9 Reaper manufactured by the United States, was also shown in videos taking off from an unidentified airstrip and flying. It is said to be capable of carrying a variety of bombs and anti-radar equipment and of conducting surveillance.

U.S. Air Forces Central released new video appearing to show Russian fighter jets harassing American drones over Syria on July 5. Information about where the incidents took place were not provided. The United States military released new aerial footage on Wednesday that showed Russian fighter jets flying dangerously close to several U.S. drones over Syria. U.S. Air Forces Central said the video of the incident shows Russian SU-35 fighters moving into the drone's flight path and setting off so-called parachute flares and forcing the MQ-9 Reapers to take evasive maneuvers. Lt. Gen. Alex Grynkewich, commander of 9th Air Force in the Middle East, said three of the U.S. drones were operating over Syria, conducting a mission on the Islamic State terror group, when the Russian aircraft "began harassing the drones" after 10:30 a.m. "Russian military aircraft engaged in unsafe and unprofessional behavior while interacting with U.S. aircraft in Syria," he said, describing the actions as threatening to the safety of the U.S. and Russian forces.

Jeffrey Harrigian, the commander of U.S. Forces Europe, recently told reporters that senior U.S. military leaders are now in an effort to increase mission survivability for combat drones operating in high-risk areas. Responding to a question about an MQ-9 Reaper being shot down over Yemen last year, Harrigian emphasized that drone operations need to become less predictable to enemies. "There is something to be said for operating in a manner that offers us an opportunity to not be as predictable as we have been.

Air Force expands mission for Reaper attack drones, adds new weapons

The Air Force is advancing plans to retire its Predator drone by transitioning pilots to the larger Reaper drone – and widening the mission scope of Reapers to include more weapons integration, attack options and ISR possibilities. The retirement and transition from the Predator to expanded Reaper use will finish by the end of this year, Air Force officials said.
